Gearbox on the way out?

Featured Replies

Good evening all,

I want to get some advice before i take my car to the garage to get a look over. I have a 2009 Skoda Octavia VRS DSG, a few months ago i noticed a clunking noise whenever i put my car into Drive it doesn't seem to happen with Park, Reverse or Neutral. Also when i'm driving if i'm coming to a stop when it's in 2nd and about to drop down into 1st it also makes the clunk noise.

Any help would be appreciated

Maybe an engine/gearbox mount needing replaced?

Any idea where the clunk is coming from?

Thanks for the reply, I can’t quite pin point the location but it sounds like it’s coming from the engine bay. Sorry it’s not useful, I can try and look later properly.

I have a similar (fairly quiet, but noticeable) clunk putting it into drive.  My mechanic took it for a drive and reckons it's the transmission.  He didn't seem to think it was too big a deal, but didn't elaborate.

Those behaviours not entirely unusual unless they have become more prominent. Mine does make a distinct down change when going back to 1st. If you don't have the radio on you notice it more.  It sounds more like a it could be a flywheel problem.

How many miles has the car done, when was the DSG serviced/?
