Looking to buy a 2014 Fabia VRS DSG

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

Completely new to this forum so please bare with me...

So I am in need of a new car and I have come across a Fabia VRS and I love the look and I have heard from a few people they are great fun to drive, but before I go ahead to view the car and potentially buy it, I would really appreciate knowing about anything I should be looking for when viewing the car and test driving it which could be red flags not to buy . I would also be really appreciative if anybody could also answer the below questions:

How is the DSG gearbox wear and tear wise?

How is the engine wear and tear wise?

How tuneable are they?

How reliable are they?

DSG box ---- as with any automatic box can have issues, but generally reliable -- a 2014 car will be all sorted as there was oil issues with earlier cars.

Engine --- wear and tear.....well they have their known issues but it "generally" affected earlier cars with the CAVE engine which consumed excess oil and lots of engines were replaced, a 2014 will be a CTHE engine--- ( improved / revised)

Misfiring is a common issue, caused by spark plugs, so any issues or misfires, get them changed and don't leave them for the recommended 20k, its to long, change em @10k "imo"

How tunable----- well any turbocharged engine is tuneable, question is how big is your pocket and how fast do you want to go ?? and remember tuning improves performance, but "moves" stress to other components (depending on power achieved)

For me the car is pretty quick as it is, infact I think they are superb, especially in the mid range as the super charger is always on tap until the turbo takes over.

How reliable------How long is a piece of string, some do mega miles and others suffer issues, as with ANY make / model of car. If you look after it on a regular basis and use quality parts, then I feel they are above average, tune it to much, drive it like you stole it  everywhere and neglect servicing, then expect expensive consequences

Overall I love mine, I think it's a great car and is def fun to drive, it has plenty of power in stock form and does what it says on the tin.

Buying a 2013 / 2014 car is the best bet with a service history, but if your unsure of anything, get it done (especially spark plugs do them anyway)

just browsing this forum will show many topics, well worth reading.

Whats the mileage etc on the car you have seen ?  link to it ?

As to the DQ200 DSG.

There was an issue with some from 2013-2015 so a Service Campaign was called in 2017 and that was a software update but there were 2014 DSG's that had leaked and were replaced. There was a pressure / heat issue, and there could be leaks or failures.

So when looking at a car check was it part of the Recall-Action / Service campaign and needing doing and was done.
