ICE - The Basic mods first.

Featured Replies

Sorry mate, it was too early in the morning - definitely need to get my eyes tested. :D

Yes, I did improve the ICE in my Octy mk I – Rockford Fosgate HU (to play MP3s) and Infinity 6500cs components up front. I also had Infinity co-axs in the back but it was an estate.

I did disconnect the rear tweeters – carefully prise out the grills and disconnect the connectors (I put foam round the leads so they did not rattle).

Cutting the plastic sheet from behind the front woofers does make a dramatic improvement – I taped a small sheet of plastic to the upper edge of the cut-out to act as a shield to stop water running onto the speakers.

The Infinity 6500cs (6.5" diameter woofer) are the deepest that will fit in the existing holders – they’re 62mm deep with a magnet diameter of 90mm. It is necessary to cut part of the window lift support bracket away – have a look at my post at www.briskoda.net/forums/ice-security-insurance/fitting-infinity-6500cs-components/9353/

As mentioned earlier, if you are changing the speakers use new cable and taping the existing connectors out of the way so they existing stuff can be replaced when you sell the car.

Bear in mind that if you are replacing the HU you will need an aerial adaptor – the car aerial has a built-in amplifier. Remember to order one when you get your HU.

Is there no way to power the arial booster?

Not without the adaptor - the power is fed down the aerial lead to the aerial. The adaptor has a cable which you connect to an ignition supply. Mine is an Autoleads PC5-52 "Amplified Antenna ISO Adaptor".

In my experience you can just about get away without one on FM (signal strength drops) but you need one for AM.
