Any Idea what this is?

Featured Replies

Driving home tonight and something fell from under the steering column cover on to my foot.  Stopped the car to find out what it was and found this! Any idea what it is and what it does or in my case doesn’t do now 🤣

Having got the torch out I can see where that part fits to the right of my steering column but it was too dark to get a decent picture and it might be quite awkward to reattach it without removing part of the dashboard.

Thanks for the reply.  You couldn’t help me out by taking a picture please of what you can see.  I have had another look this morning and can’t see where if anywhere the part could fit.  Thanks in advance

Which isn't very secure.. 😄

Just a guess from looking at the pictures.

Looks like it holds a nut in place so that on assembly the bolt from the other side engages correctly on the threads of the nut.

So after the bolt has been fitted in place this bit of plastic becomes redundant, and often fitting the bolt actually dislodges it so it can drop into the footwell.

So,if I'm right it's nothing to worry about...but I might be totally wrong!

Gaz is spot on it is indeed a securing ring part 22 on that diagram which the accelerator and brake pedal assemblies are attached to a plate but the plastic part doesn't seem to be safety related just helped in the manufacturing process IMO.
