Leather Seat Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hello again gents,

I'm considering switching over to leather seats in my 2011 Octy - after a lot of kilometers I've finally gotten sick of the poverty spec fabric seats.

My question is, what other vehicles will be compatible? I don't mean seat bolt pattern etc, I'm more thinking about the electrical plugs for the seatbelt and the airbags. I'm assuming that most of the Mk6 platform will share the same plugs?

I've got pretty limited options in NZ, no high-optioned Octavias of the same year or Superbs that I can find.

Is there any VCDS adjustment required?

The other thing to consider are the rear seats fold down (obviously) and they have the separate piece around the side.

Cheers

Oh hi!

The fronts are easy enough.

Golf Mk5/6

Audi A3/A4

I think even superb and Passat.

The connectors sometimes march but mostly they don't but you can buy a universal connector and re-do the plugs or just solder the joint  or similar work around.

The rears are more difficult and it will be suck it and see with possible intervention by a decent motor trimmer.

The biggest issue is the wiring for heating and adjustment motors.

I had S3 seats and took them out as I could be bothered sorting out these minor issues.  I'm sure a person with more motivation can get on top of it.

Thanks for the detailed reply Brad! To be honest this sounds like a huge pain in the a** 😂

Being that mine comes with the Poverty™️ manual and unheated seats, I can't really justify bothering - especially when considering the price of a set of any of the seats you mentioned above.

The only reason i bought mine was because the seller wanted to clear out his storage cage.  I went to buy a set of wheels and tyres for $400 and he had the leather seats and some alloy lower control arms.  I offered a fair price (emptied my wallet) for the lot on the spot which meant he didn't have to faff about for weeks and he took it.

I have an Elegance and have had cars with leather before and I think the cloth is pretty good and the standard seats are supportive for normal driving duties.

They aren't too bad, it's mostly that my ones have worn down on the driver's seat after so many k's, and its not easy finding the same one. For some reason the pattern on it seems to be 'unique' and harder to find.

Other than that, they are surprisingly supportive and relatively comfortable.
