2011 superb diesel Radio / cd

Featured Replies

how do I find out what model my radio is  It seems to be a colombus ?, also the radio will only accept one cd , I cannot believe it is only a single player.

another problem is the system needs an upgrade ( GPS etc }   but I' quoted $300 + by the dealer , { about #159 Quid , does anyone know if we can do a DIY or do I have to go to the main dealer, seems a lot for a SD card !!

That's because CD's aren't a popular as they once were and plenty of new cards don't even have a CD player... Must be almost 10 years since I last used a CD in a car ;)

It's easier to confirm which headunit you have by taking a picture.

- Columbus (RNS-510): looks like this:

- Amundsen/Amundsen+ (RNS-310/315):

All three (Columbus, Amundsen, Amundsen+) need different map updates. Given you mentioned a SD card, that would suggest you have one of the latter two.

Genuine updates from dealers are expensive but you can find 'pirated/cloned' updates at a fraction of the price if you're happy to use them.

does it say "columbus" on it?

if so then it is.

use thee search and you will find plenty of instructions of how to upgrade the maps for free.

The columbus does not use an sd card for updates

thanks for the reply , there is no name on it but have found its lookalike which IS a colombus !, you advise use THEE search ...could you be more specific please BM

That is normal for many of them - my 2014 has one and it doesn't have Columbus on it either. VW and Seat use the same unit (RNS 510) so leaving the name off probably allows them to use the same part across the marques, just with different software managing the screens and colours.

As for the Search function - on a laptop/browser, it is located at the top, right hand side of the screen.

Good spot, here is a Columbus out of a 2014 Superb Elegance, I'd not noticed this before...

Looking at used Superb's on Autotrader was a bad idea, I miss mine dearly.

A lot of car not much money...

It is, isn't it?  Every August is my birthday and its a good excuse to *think* about a car change. I've had plenty of supposed "premium" cars  and I've no wish (and no need!) to go back.  Large estates (E220, V90 A6, and S3) and SUV's (Kodiaq, Q5, XC60 and 90, CX5) - looked at most of them.  Certainly liked a few.

The problem with the S2 Estate in Elegance trim or similar is that it is still good enough that it makes no sense to cough up 20,000 or more just to have a new car and the new cars aren't better enough to particularly want to do it.  I like the S3 Estate and the Kodiaq but they wont make me change because they are heaps better.  No offence to them - when the S2 causes trouble or gets pranged then they would be right up at the top of my list.

My 3 dogs got reduced to 2 a few months ago. So I did say I would stick with 2 dogs and then I could look at even more cars when I have to change.  That plan goes to hell in about an hour when a new dirty big rescue dog is being delivered.... gonna have to stick with big cars - S3, Kodiaq......   :)
