Multi function display

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2011 2.0 diesel yeti. All was fine until the multi function display started blinking on and off.I brought it to my mechanic and he plugged  diagnostic computer in but no alerts. The  display blinks while sitting in traffic and eventually goes then comes back after abit.Has anybody had this problem and what did you do to sort it?.Was it much of a job pulling dash apart?.Any feedback would be appreciated.

Tnx

Hugh

MIne would just go off and stay off, I thought it was the battery voltage low, to cut a long story short

It happened several times over my ownership but no fault found.

One day it occurred and I got it to the dealer who videoed it and the unit was changed.

Do you mean the centre display on the dashboard stops displaying information and then comes back on? If so, it might be a loose connection for the LCD panel.

Yeah the display between the speedo and rev counter. When it is working everything work's fine via the scroll roller on steering wheel but it disappears and eventually comes back

It's likely to be one of two things:

- the LCD display or it's connector are damaged

- the LCD backlight is turning off so you can't see what's on the display

It'll be hard to confirm exactly which with the cluster in the car:

- if it happens in the dark, you might still see if the backlight is lit which suggests the LCD is at fault

- if it happens in the light, by looking closely (or shining a torch on it) you might still see what's on the display which suggests the backlight is at fault

The LCD panel has it's own connector so if you're reasonably competent, it might be worth taking the cluster out and taking it apart to check it's properly inserted and in good, clean condition. Don't touch the dial faces as they are very hard to remove grease etc from ;)

The backlight is a set of surface mount LED's attached to the PCB so if they are failing or the driver circuit that powers them, you might need a electronics repair shop to take a look. There were issues with poor quality clusters in other Skoda's around this time but typically it's a needle that looses it's backlight rather than the centre display.

OK thanks for that info at least I can point my mechanic  in this direction. Do you if the LCD panels are dear items to purchase

I'm not sure they are but you can probably remove one from a used cluster from eBay or similar.
