Has anyone any thoughts,positive or negative,on taking out a main dealer service plan.My Karoq 1.6TDI was serviced as a dealer approved vehicle with 5k miles on.My next service will be next September or 15k and I was thinking of taking the Skoda two service plan @£342 but my local dealer(RRG Bolton) do an in house service plan 3 years @£667 for service 2,3 and 4.Both plans are available interest free.£325 for service 4 seems a little steep to me.

Have them set out what they will actually do at each service, and what they will not do, as not a Scheduled item according to them, 

and yet they will do if you pay extra.

 

Next Service will be called by them a Major Service, 

But it will only be Oil / Filter, Sump Plug and Pollen filter supplied, so basically a Oil & Filter service.

 

So the one after that will be a Oil & Filter service, they might say a Minor Service. Oil & Filter.

No Air Filter or Fuel Filter.

They will not include the AC Service that they might say is required or adviced.

 

@ 3 years the Brake Fluid is due a change is that included.

 

Service plans can be expensive to have not much done.

 

Oil & Filter services are £119 and you get a health check. Car not you.

These prices are stupid if parts are not supplied, 3-10 year old car, at participating dealers.

Thanks for your input mate,to be honest I was leaning towards the two year Skoda one but will make sure whats included,attached a copy of the schedule for the 3 year plan.

Like i said.

Not much done in the services if a technician decides not to replace stuff, maybe not even look at a Air Filter to see if it needs replacing.

Quite expensive for what you get,  and some things like courtesy car (if available) may turn out to be useless unless you book months in advance

 

You could just as easily set up a standing order transfer to a deposit account for £33 per month, then pay when the service is due. 

The interest free is a gimmick, especially if you start paying monthly before any service is due, as you are paying part in advance.

 

On second thoughts if doing a transfer to put money aside, make it £50 per month to cover annual road tax as well, or perhaps £70-80 to also cover insurance.  Usually cheaper to pay these annual costs in one go, and this way wont be an unfunded big amount to pay once a year.

 

 

 

Just a thought, does the service plan also include DSG maintenance and brake fluid changes and possibly any MoT testing?  I had a quote for a service plan from my local dealer (well actually two) one contained just the servicing schedule and the other contained every service/maintenance item the car would need in the next 3 years, including MoT tests.  

I have never seen a service plan that included DSG / Haldex servicing which really is an issue when you see cars including Approved Used with FMDSH and not gthe Servicing to manufacturers recommendations. (they do not call then schedules or guidelines.)

 

Service plans should obviously include the things like Haldex at 3 years / brake fluid @ 3 years and DSG that requires Oil changes at 40,000 miles.

This was a ‘dealer backed’ scheme rather than a Škoda one. They basically take the total value of the recommended/scheduled maintenance work and divide it by 36 months or a one off payment.  If I sold the car at any point then I could have any money that was remaining ‘in the pot’ back. (Minus a very small admin fee) 

 

I decided against it because the itemised cost of each item was more than what is advertised on Skodas own website. When I queried it with the service manager he waffled about them ‘future proofing’ the costs so they (the dealer) weren’t out of pocket.  A bit of a p*55 take.

Update to this topic-I decided to take up the Skoda 2 year service pack for £342 available in interest free payments of £19 per month for 18 months.Reason being my next two services would be at a cost of £179 and £229 respectively =£408 so a saving of £66.

Skoda are cheeky.

 

All services, petrol or diesel, fixed or variable, only involve an oil filter, oil and pollen filter before 3 years and 60,000 miles.

 

There is literally no difference between the £179 and £229 services. Poor show.

Fair point Silver,Skoda describe the £179 service as an oil service and the £229 service as an oil and inspection service.I took the view that to enable my warranty to be valid for the full 3 years,it was easier to take up a service plan,enabling the two services to be done for 342.I appreciate under EU legislation I can take it anywhere as long as I can prove the garage use genuine parts and recommended lubricants,but how much would you save?Im paying £171 each service,I appreciate this more expensive than an unofficial skoda specialist or VAG specialist who have quoted me between £120 and £170 locally.The interest free option is an added bonus as is the courtesy car option.

Just to add to this with some real world experience.

 

I just got back from MK where I had my 1st Major service and I am now comparing the Job sheet with the Interim service which was done in May 2019.

 

These were the two "Free" services from buying the car brand new...

 

The only difference in the Major Service was they used Castrol 5/30 Edge 00OF oil which was 4.5 Litres at £76.46 vs the Interim of T/D 5W40 Castrol M00NA 4.2 Litres at £25.27

 

The Interim Labour was £56.84 vs Major £147

 

Both Job Sheets give Tyre and Brake wear.

 

The funny thing (not) is that my break wear is getting better with time. In May they reported that I had worn 20% of Front Brakes and 10% of rear...

 

Today the wear is reported as <5% for both front and back!!!

 

No Air filter just an Oil Filter so for an extra £239 vs £98 Interim all I have is some more expensive oil and nothing else... What a @ucking joke....

 

People beware with these "Deals"!!!

 

I asked to see the service schedule to see what should be changed and when and was told by the Receptionist "Service desk agent" that it was on line. I said he should be able to provide me with it and he said he would send me an e-mail in an hours time with it all listed...

 

Needless to say 3.39pm and I left at 1pm after being with them from 10am...

 

Nothing in my in box yet...

 

If anyone can find this info on line can you point me in the right direction as I used to have it in my Octi Service Book but "Simply Clever" decided that we no longer should have that info....

 

Skoda and VWG are a Shambles....

 

You'll probably find the oil was the same, just described differently on the invoice. All the dealers use Castrol Edge 5W30 as far as I'm aware.

 

More worryingly they used less of it the second time around.

 

Sucking it out of the oil filler or dropped via the sump, or another lazy invoice entry?
