Playing with VAG COM 3112. Bought a serial cable and an RS232 Serial Adaptor (as no serial port on the lappy). Bizarrely the interface is not recognised. So, bang the software on the old man's lappy, which does have a serial port and sure enuff she works. All well and good except that I want it to work on mine and I'm anal and want to know why it doesn't work!

Question is - any technie genius there that can spot the problem? The serial card is this baby:

Connector is via an rsj type cable. Set up according to the destructions etc.

Have I bought the wrong item here do we reckon??

It might just be that the interface doesn't like the card. VAG-COM isn't too succesful with USB to serial adaptors either.

Check to see which COM port the adaptor you have is assigned to? Most legacy apps will only use COM ports 1-4, where as USB based adaptors can use anything from 1 onwards...
