Looking to buy vRS

Featured Replies

Hello! I'm looking to buy a Mk1 Fabia vRS. Used to own one a few years ago but sadly sold it. Just wondering what people's thoughts are on buying one even though its a Euro IV diesel. Is it mad to consider one given the governments future plan to tax them off the road? Are they now too long in the tooth to be worthwhile?

for info since I sold my vRS, I have owned 5 cars (Mazda 2 GT Sport, Polo BlueGT, Seat leon FR and Cooper S). All of these cars didn't come close to my Fabia with their only redeeming quality being "they had a built in SAT-NAV")

thank you!!

Missed one off my list....Fiesta

Buy the best looked after one you can find, don't get hung up on mileage, buy on condition and documented history.

Don't worry about road tax, you've been wasting stupendous amounts of money with depreciation on all those other cars.

Yes totally agreed, I have wasted a lot due to foolishness! or maybe it some kinda mid life crisis! there does seem to be quite a dirth of vRS on autotrader. My reason was for selling my vRS was panic! when I heard about the scrappage scheme and government plans to tax them off the road and spoke to a few co-workers about the future of diesel i went and sold my car.

Most taxation changes apply to new vehicles to make changes take place gradually, for any government to encourage diesel then have a change of heart and tax voters who followed their advice would be political suicide.

Then again I think about the current crop of politicians we have and realise they are capable of just about anything and nothing.

The current push for electric vehicles is a good example. I heard a knowledgably sounding scientist explain that the scarce metals used in the batteries of electric vehicles make it impossible for the trend to continue. He estimated that it would take the entire world's supply of several metals if the UK switched entirely to battery cars. There is also a view that the production and disposal of electric battery vehicles is probably so resource intensive they do just as much harm to the environment over the life of the vehicle as fossil fuels.

Who knows what we should be doing, just enjoy your motoring and take advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

Just to be clear, there are no plans to purge the roads of elderly vehicles, the UK is already one of the cleanest countries in the developed world and as long as your car passes the MOT every year you can carry on using it and no one is going to try and stop you.

That's good! thanks for all the helpful information. I'll keep an eye on the for sale section here and autotrader. As an aside, I have found a couple of 2007 "Special Edition" in Black (normal vRS cloth seats) but am surprised at this as I always believed special editions were limited to the ones which came in blue (about 1000 made?) and had black leather seats?

yes, the official run-out "special edition" were the blue ones (the only ones that colour in a Fabia at the time) with Leather seats (that had their number embossed into the seat.)

However I wouldn't be surprised if there were dealers trying to shift stock at the time by making different "special editions" of their own. One local dealer made (if I remember correctly) a "dark" edition which had black wheels and other "dealer-fit" extras, but that was just before the official one came out

It's just a black VRS, don't pay extra.
