Replacing Tail Gate Glass

Featured Replies

Hi all

Had my Skoda Octavia Estate Mk3 Greenline broken into and the scum bags (sorry!) broke the rear/boot window to get in and nick some stuff.

I've had Autoglass out to fix a replacement window but they are saying that they can't do it as they can't remove the rear spoiler and I need to take it to a body shop. Apparently they are normally screwed in but the person who has tried says that this one is glued on.

I'm very rubbish at cars so don't know if this is correct so thought I'd ask on here for some advice.

So, could someone confirm that the small spoiler on the boot (its the official one as far as i know) is glued on or is actually screwed on and how I might be able to get the spoiler off so they can sort the glass?

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Thanks in advance.

Why does the spoiler obstruct the screen? My vRS estate had a roof spoiler and the screen was replaced with no fuss...

Is the spoiler the same as this one?

I wouldn't have thought this one covers the glass at all?

Edit: I can see this one does:

If it is indeed bonded, it will require a bodyshop to remove & replace unfortunately.

Have you looked yourself to see if any fixings are visible at the edge of the screen? Did the Autoglass tech remove the upper plastic trim on the inside of the tailgate to look for fixings, or were they working on assumption...?

Hi pist0nbr0ke.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I wasn't there with the Autoglass technician doing it as he did it while I was at work. The photo's you posted are exactly what my car looks like.

A further update is that it is being taken into a bodyshop, as they apparently are 99% sure its bonded, but all under the initial £95 although apparently although it won't affect my no claim bonus, as its a "body repair" i'll have to declare it on my future insurance applications.

Thanks again for the help :)

You have to declare any glass repair anyway but if it's being suggested to you that the spoiler removal needs to be declared separately as an incident involving body damage I would argue that's unreasonable and certainly wouldn't bother doing it myself.
