Strange bend light / AFS error

Featured Replies

After driving in dark and fog for the first time for a while, I noticed that my left side light (hi beam) was pointing way out left and up when driving straight. This is when using "auto" mode on lights. When switching over to "on" both lights point straight forward. Going back to "auto" again makes the left light travel out left and up again after a few seconds.

I don't get any errors on the display, everything looks ok

Car is superb 2010 1.8 tsi elegance. Left Hand drive (in Sweden)

Any way to test the wheel to light movement without moving?

To fill in, this is only when going straight forward, when turning right, the lights seems to follow/bend correct.

At high speeds over a certain amount like on motorways the beam pattern is spread wider. You notice when you stop in traffic and you see them becoming narrow again not wide. Is this what you are experiencing?

Given the OP was in the fog, it's likely they were driving slowly. If so, it was probably 'City mode'. This will leave the passenger headlight in it's normal position but the drivers headlight should drop and turn towards the opposite curb slightly.

When you put the headlight switch in the 'on' position it disabled the AFS modes so it was turning off 'City mode' and returning the headlights to the normal position. If I remember correctly, 'City mode' should work to 30-40 kph.
