Winter tyres for a cheapskate....

Featured Replies

Hi,

Potentially looking at replacing the 62 plate Yeti Elegance 4x4 2 litre diesel with a new, shiny Karoq Edition 4x4 (190 with DSG) very shortly. Does anyone know if my existing winter wheels/tyres will work with the Karoq?

Currently running Hankook 215/60R16's on a set of 16" alloys. I can't remember the spec of the alloys. Will these be directly compatible?  It seems that 16" tyres are compatible with the Karoq (apparently...).

Thanks for any assistance.

Steve

Yes they’ll fit fine and are a Skoda approved size. My son got my Yeti winter wheels for his Karoq as they were too small for my Kodiaq.

Brilliant news! Having just replaced the front pair, I'd have hated to have to get rid! Thanks again!

The factory approved 16" rims for Karoq are the 6Jx16 H2 ET43.

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect this thread but my Karoq is now very near (next two weeks) and I'm just wanting to get in my head what I need to do. I've a set of 16" Alutec Alloy wheels currently on my Yeti with good Hankook winter rubber on. The wheels appear to be either 6.5J or 7JWhat would the impact be for fitting these to the Karoq considering @agedbriar's very kind comment above? I get most things about wheels/tyres but not this bit.

These wheels have been fine on my Yeti (currently on there now) and it'd be really great if they'll work *safely* on the Karoq.

Thanks all,

Steve

@StevieK

So 215/60 R16's on the Yeti wheels, what is on the Karoq?

Hi again,

It's the Edition spec with 19s on - not got it yet but I believe the standard is 235/40R19. I believe the tyres to be fully compatible (MyTyres, Oponeo etc all show this tyre to be fine for both Yeti and Karoq). It's more the wheel that is causing me a bit of confusion...

Thanks

Steve

My 2019  Edition 4x4 is fitted as new with these.

Steve,

Skoda approved 16" tyres for Karoq are 215/60 R16 and 225/60 R16, to be mounted on 6J x 16 ET43 rims.

The Yeti seems to have used either 6J x 16 ET50 or 7J x 16 ET45 rims. Neither one is approved for Karoq. I'm unable to advise beyond that.

Cheers @agedbriar. Gonna keep the tyres and get a nice set of 6J x 16 ET43 rims from Dezent - just to be on the safe side. Thanks again for your assistance!

The Dezent are indeed nicer, but mine are made to fit directly, without adapters and separate bolts. 😛

Often very useful to use a German winter wheels website as they have some very comprehensive compatibility checkers.

Even if can’t read German, pretty obvious on the drop downs how to select make, model, engine size, wheel size etc.   Try this for example

https://www.felgenshop.de/

On my 1.5 SEL I have fitted for the second year running the set of winter wheels from the Touran. These are Continental TS850 91 WIN on 16 inch 6.5  5/112 ET50  rims.  They have not been tested in anger on the Karoq but were very good on the VW.
