Hatchback central locking triggered by handbrake?

Featured Replies

Hi as above, Is the central locking triggered by the handbrake? I’ve been having CL issues, flicking on/off whilst driving and the button on the center console doesn’t work properly, I’m wondering if it’s related, and maybe a broken earth or something causing my issues?

thanks.

Well to answer my own question, no the handbrake doesn’t control the central locking.

and as I read on another thread the wiring gets caught in the handbrake mech, it had chafed the wiring in such a way when I put the handbrake down it locked the doors 😂 it’s broken a wire so the button works intermittently currently but I’ll solder a repair in when I get chance.

Thanks for the update. I am sure it will help someone in future.

In case it is model year dependent, what year is your car?

Mines a hatchback 06 VRS TFSI 👍

yea I updated the thread for that reason, not nice to find a thread unfinished when trying to find a solution to your problem.

edit: it’s easy to investigate too, on my PFL without the cubby box there’s a little plastic piece that pulls out in front of the handbrake, once thats out you can see the wiring.

i won’t have to pull up the center console to repair luckily but I guess it depends on where the cables get damaged.

Thank you for closing out this topic. One of my pet hates about briskoda.net is the failure to close out topics regarding problems. This comment is not to be taken as a criticism of this resource.which is very useful for me with an older car.
