EPC warning light

Featured Replies

My 2016, 49k miles Citigo Colours model exhibited the yellow Electronic Power Control (EPC) warning light yesterday about 20 miles into a journey whilst under light load.  It ran rough for about a mile or so and I switched off the engine and left it for 1/2 an hour.  On restart it performed faultlessly for around 35 miles.

I checked via the On Board Diagnostics port located above the throttle pedal.  And the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) were as follows:-

P(owertrain) 0300 - Cylinder misfire

P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire.

P130A - Hide cylinder (aka cylinder disabling - where the Electronic Control Unit detects a misfire and switches off the offending petrol injector to prevent damage).

There hasn't been any engine related work recently, so I swapped the coils and spark plugs from cylinders 2 and 3 over. If it fails again and the problem occurs in #3, it'll indicate the coil/plugs are failing.  If not, it could be injector wiring/ECU/valves etc.

I've ordered a new coil (Bosch £28) and set of plugs (NGK, £18 for a set of 3) as a precaution.

Be advised the yellow engine check light didn't activate.

The diagnosis may assist others with similar problems.

Other than the above, a couple of punctures and a noisy gearbox, it's been a great little car.

Cheers from Snaefell,  Marown, IoM.
