Dying Instrument Cluster

Featured Replies

Hi,

The dials on my instrument cluster are slowly dying. The speedo, revs, temp and fuel dials started to fail about two weeks ago, last night they just flicked on occaisionally.

My local and trusted garage told me I needed a new cluster and I've managed to get one second hand. Unfortuneately they can't fit it as they say it needs a code resetting or something like that.

Does anyone know what this is and where I could get it done in east London without having to use a main dealer.

Thanks

Keith

The instrument cluster AKA dash panel insert also contains the immobiliser, when adapting keys to the immobiliser a PIN number must be used which is unique to each vehicle, best bet is to see if you can get the details from the donor vehicle chassis, registration and immobiliser serial numbers to enable you to get the PIN from a dealer, if you can find a dealer who is willing to do this without a log book or proof of ownership. You will also need the PIN for your original dash panel insert. From the outset it would be quicker and less hassle to get a dealer to sort it with a new dash panel, unless you could find an electrician to sort it.

We had a Punto at work with an immobiliser problem and no red key and managed to find a company on the web who managed to sort it for a quarter of the cost of replacing all the components, even though our usual electrician said it couldn't be done.
