Long gearing in vRS?

Featured Replies

Apologies if discussed before.

I find the gearing quite long in my manual Octavia vRS 230. Has anyone else noticed?

2nd in particular seems awkward. Top end is well over 60mph. Approaching a roundabout and driving steady, I often find myself dropping out of the power band in 2nd which makes it awkward pulling out into a tight gap. When I'm having a bit of fun in in a sequence of medium corners I often find myself wishing for a ratio between 2nd (hitting limiter) and 3rd (dropping out of power band).

I feel like it would be much more flexible and improve driveability if 2nd topped out around 50mph and 3rd was lowered similarly. Is it just me?

The only reason I can think Skoda did this is to make the 0-60 stats look better so the car can hit 60 without the extra gear change.
