Problems reading SD card

Featured Replies

I use an SD card to store music to play in my 2016 Octavia MkIII.  Normally when I press the media button on the console, it goes straight to the SD card and plays from where it was last stopped. Recently it has started coming up with an error screen and when you search for the source, the SD card is not highlighted. I wonder if it’s something I can sort myself, or if I have even caused this myself, but it is annoying to say the least. It does come up after about a minute or so but it’s not working as it should. The car has just been back to have a new gear selector sensor fitted. I wondered if any programming that might have required has interfered with this. Don’t particularly want to take it back to the dealers again but will do if no answers on here.  Any help gratefully received 🙂.

It could be something as simple as needing to re-insert the card to 'clean' the contacts.

Have done that a couple of times but no joy. Contacts nice and clean. Good quality SD card used as well.

Maybe worth copying the data on the SD card onto a PC and then reformatting the SD card before copying the data back on?

Over the years I've had several SD cards just fail, they don't seem to be the most reliable electronic item in my experience.

Might do that Dave, it can’t harm. Will buy another SD card and copy to that as well. I think I paid £16 or more for the last one, I know it wasn’t cheap. 😉

Mentioned this to a Skoda technician yesterday. Was told to “hold the on /off button in for 15 seconds to force a hard reset” . Done that this morning with no success. Will reformat the SD card on my pc as PetrolDave suggests and see if that works. Will keep posting on here until I get a solution. Thanks for tips so far.👍😊

Well chaps, turns out it was the SD card that was faulty. As it was less than a year old it’s being replaced, so hopefully I should be operational by weekend. 👍
