DSG issues

Featured Replies

Hi,

I really would like a Skoda Yeti (1.2 DSG) I'm after a petrol as I sit in stop/start city traffic for my daily commute but the yetis practicality will be great for weekend too runs, camping etc. However I'm really concerned about the DSG gearbox issues that I've read about online. I'm looking at 2013 onward yetis and really hoping that they're more reliable?

It's so hard when looking online as I've read a lot of negativity about the 1.2 DSG, but from my understanding there was a change of oil from synthetic to mineral (it might be the other way around) and that cured the issue. I'm so confused though because there are various DSG gearboxes and it's difficult to know which boxes are fitted to which cars on which vehicle years! Ahhhh!!

All 1.2 engined Yetis with DSG have a 7 speed gearbox and a pair of dry automatic clutches.  The diesel engined Yetis have six speed gearboxes and wet clutches. Do not be too put off by what you have read about problems...... yes some have given trouble,  and because of the complexity of the engineering and electronics they can be extremely expensive to fix......  but when you consider how many millions of trouble-free units there are out there in VW, Seat Skoda and Audi cars it really has to be admitted that they are,  in fact, extremely reliable.  And as far as driver satisfaction is concerned I don't think there is any other system out there that gives as smooth changes as the DSG;  and the fuel economy is as good as manual transmission if not better.... which cannot be said of torque-converter automatic gearboxes.  I absolutely love my 1.2 DSG and would certainly go for another if ever I replace my present Yeti.

Thanks for the prompt response and clarification on which gearboxes are paired to which engines. I guess you're right, it's something to consider that there are lots of examples out there that are running smoothly/without issue. Can I ask what year your yeti is?

Welcome to the forum.

After the world wide recall & just the European Service Campaign which is '34F7' on 2009-2012 DQ200 DSG's there is the Service Campaign started in 2017 which is '34H5' and is for some from 2013-2015, a software update.  Check if this was required and done.

There are late 2012 DQ200 DSG that got neither the first or 2nd Campaign actions.

These are the ones that might have the issue that shows with the 'Flashing Spanner' warning.

2015:  all the details are listed in the bottom left corner of my posts... you could put your details on your posts, too:  click on your name in the top right corner,  then choose Content and Profile from the drop-down menu that will open;  the information you put in your profile will appear on every post you make,  saving you having to enter all those details within your posts if you ever need to ask a question about your car,  and gives those wishing to respond some basic details on which to base their replies.  (Oh,  and welcome to the forum 😃!)
