Hatchback water ingress.

Featured Replies

Hi

is there any common areas for water ingress? We are getting very steamy, the carpets where dry last time I checked but I’ve not checked after all the rain we had yesterday, although I’m aware they may still be wet underneath, I’ve still got to check properly.

after the funny look my misses gave me because I told her to clean the windows first 😂 I’m just wondering if there is any other areas like the usual culprits of pollen filter seals, scuttle bungs, inner door trim seals to name a few 😬 the car doesn’t have a sunroof so that’s out the equation at least.

thanks.

Interested in this too.

IIRC the rear boot seal can sometimes hold water inside it which then squirts into your boot when you open and shut it.

Solution is to cut little V's.

However I'm sure someone with some proper experience will be along shortly :)

Thanks for that, yea we suffer the water sitting in the seal, I’ll try cutting the V’s in it, I wrongly assumed it was sitting in the hatch somewhere, but to be fair I’ve been concentrating on getting the thing running right before focusing on other issues.

it does seem to be the back half of the car that’s suffering steamy windows so I’ll have a poke around.

That’s a great read, I’ll go through them and have a look, I know the spare wheel well isn’t full of water as I had a flat a few weeks back, but when opening the hatch it does pour some water into the boot.

thanks.

@Vrsburnzy for clarity - cut some upside down V's ( ^ 's) to help the seal drain. I need to do this on mine at some point soon as well.

Thanks for the info so far :)

I needed to fix the rear parking sensor yesterday as it had been pushed inside the bumper from the previous owner, so bumper off meant I could have a good look around, I did find a little water Resting in the near side pocket behind the trim in the boot, the seal did have water in it too, so I’ve cut some V’s into it, two at the bottom and one either side where the seal flattens out further up, I’ll keep an eye on it and report back.
