Felicia Gearchange - Help!!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Maybe someone can help me. My 1999 T reg Felicia 1.3MPI now has a broken gearshift. I'd like to know where is best to source the souce the reuired parts and exactly which ones I need to fix it.

I've got the car up on ramps and underneath I can see the selector shift is connected to the assembly including the bearing for the gearshift mechanism (a small ball, part of a ball & socket assembly). I think this complete part is called the "gearchange linkage steady rod". It is secured to the car underside by two bolts just behind the gearchange mounting hole and the other end is attached to the transmission via a rubber mounting. This ball can be seen in the attached picture.

The socket which fits on the ball in the above described part forms one end of a component that is fitted to the selector shaft with an 8mm bolt mounted through a bush at the other end of this component (see picture).

On my car the ball and socket have long since lost any lubricatiion and so have been running dry. The result is wear to both parts that has now ensured they don't stay together. There is a plastic clip which fits in position to hold the ball/socket joint together but this just falls off when I re-assemble the mechanism and then move the gearstick from inside the car.

Can anyone suggest what I need to buy to put this right. It seems I would need a new gearchange linkage steady rod, a new socket component and a new clip at least. However the lower end of the gearstick fits into a "tub" containing grease which forms one end of the selector shaft (see picture), this assembly has a rubber boot fitted, it also falls apart easily!!

Any help would be appreciated, maybe it is possible to source a complete assembly????

Thanks.

Howard

I have exactly the same problem which I have temporarily solved (see previous thread).

I would be very interested to hear your remedy for this - whether or not you replaced the complete mechanism or which parts you purchased, where from and how much?

Hope to see your reply.

Many thanks,

Chris

Chris,

In the end I purchased a sub assembly from a Skoda breaker in Poole, Dorset. This consisted of the gearstick and the selector rod which pushes and pulls the shaft coming out of the gearbox. There is a spring pin to drive out on the joint where the two parts are joined together at the gearbox end. The other parts of the assembly I bought are the ball-joint itself and the steady rod which is bolted to the transmission housing on a rubber mounting.

The assembly cost me

Howard,

Thanks for the reply.

With reference to the ball-joint, do you mean the complete 'T' shaped arm? and was this purchased from the same supplier, new or used?

Regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

By the balljoint I do mean the complete "T shaped arm". In fact as I said the whole assembly was purchased from Roadside Rescue. That includes the selector shaft upon which the "T end" of the balljoint is mounted, the steady rod (which provides some rigidty to the whole gearchange assembly and the gearstick itself.

Regards,

Howard
