Stop Start headlights dim

Featured Replies

Should my headlights dim and go back to full  when the engine restarts after stop start cycle. It's not bothering me particularly. I know it's probably quite a current draw to restart the engine.

I'm thinking battery could do with testing so might get to Halfords for a free one but would welcome any comments on battery longevity.

thank you.

Hope so as my TSI does it. More annoyingly is that the wipers stop when it restarts

When the alternator is running the voltage will be higher than when it's not, so the lights will dim (especially if Halogen), the blower fan will slow down, etc.

If there was an issue with your battery stop start would not be available

Headlights have always dimmed when starting the engine. Starter motors consume a lot of current. Stop-start has nothing to do with it. If anything with the better batteries fitted to stop-start cars the dimming effect might be less.
