Jerky when released gas 1.6 MPI

Featured Replies

I get annoyed when queuing and other slow driving in town that it goes very jerky at some gas and when you release the gas. It gets jerky in the car just like it would be an on and off button.
Otherwise, the car goes as well as it does, it is only when you release the gas and when you start to gas again carefully. Very annoying!

Do you have any idea what that might be? I've only had the car for a week and bought it cheaply so I don't know any direct service history of the car.

Is there an OBD / OBD2 jack on Felicia 1.6 MPI -98? Can you read it with a regular adapter or do you have to have the Vag-com program? We have a system called Autocom at work, can it work?

There are many possible causes. Here are two of them:

  • dirty throttle body
  • worn throttle valve position sensor

Apart from that but helpful since you bought the car recently, I would do a basic tuneup. Air filter, spark plugs. Clean the injectors or even better replace them and their seals.

There is a socket under the dashboard near relay box. Only VAG-COM interface/software works.

Hello RecardoM

Since Indalsman has not attempted a fix yet i hope it's okay i hijack his post.

From what i can understand the Thottle body would need a reset using vag-com, which i do not have access to atm.

Is it possible to change the thottle valve position sensor without having to do any software changes? and if so where i do find the throttle valve position sensor on the car?

Thanks in advance, I've attached a photo of my old trust car for good luck.

Change it, yes. Nothing stops you. But you'll need a mandatory reset of the TB. Moreover, the reset works only if there are no other errors stored.

I suggest diagnose it first and only then change the parts.

It is part of the throttle body. You change the TB as a whole.

Alright, thanks for responding so quickly.

Do you know if the TB change is described in the Haynes manual by chance?

I ordered the following one week ago:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000147740225.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.2f8f4c4di48KdK

Would it be sufficient to do the diagnose and reset?
