Warning lights...

Recommended Posts

Morning, my 2013 Octavia Vrs facelift, is doing the same thing with all the warning lights. Had it checked by AA, they said near side speed sensor. Got it changed by a local garage. However, when I start the car now the same warning lights come on. Within 5 minutes of driving, they all go out. Any help from anyone as to why this is happening would be most appreciated.

No one has yet replied as there is little detail in your post. Please add the detail requested in the bracketed upper case prompts. Someone should then reply.

Sorry I posted the original statement in the wrong forum and it was attached to a topic about the warning lights. I then ,like a fool, copied and pasted in the right forum, without re reading it.

In response to your questions, yes the ABS sensor/ speed sensor ( near side) has been replaced. The steering wheel icon (amber) the ABS icon and the tyre pressure icon are now on all the time. Took it back to the garage that replaced the sensor and he said all the problems being shown were stating intermittent. I apologize about the confusion.

Any help would be appreciated.

The abs and tyre pressure icons may need cancelling now the abs sensor has been replaced. If they were cleared by the garage and have reappeared then you need to take the car back to them and complain.

The steering wheel icon can normally be cleared by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock each way, normally it clears automatically quite quickly with normal driving. If it doesn't clear then again you need to take the car back for investigation.

Thanks for the reply.....I have taken it back to the garage. He has replaced the near side  SPEED sensor and  the warning lights are still coming on. I have done what you suggested and turned the steering wheel from lock to lock. The warning lights went out.

Now today they gave all come on again and after several lock to lock turns they will not go out.

Theguy in the garage said it might be ABS module that needs replacing.

Is it worth taking it to a Skoda specialist to get a reading from their VAG machine?

I am very puzzled !!

You need to have the fault codes read, ideally using VCDS. You should then post the results here.

In another part of Briskoda you will find a section where UK map showing members with VCDS software and willing to help for a few beer tokens. Take a look to see if is someone local to you.

The alternative is to take it to a VAW group specialist or to a Skoda garage where they will charge you around £60-£80 for diagnosis.

Finally, just a thought, as the fault may be intermittent, check that the cable from to sensor has not been damaged or rubbing against something. This should have been checked by your garage but you never know.

I have had the same....ABS, traction and tyre pressure lights all on intermittently, first happened back in the summer.

At the time, whilst having something else done, my local garage diagnosed ABS/speed sensor on the offside rear. Having looked it up online, I did the job myself, and it worked, all lights extinguished.

Then, a few weeks ago....just in time for the MOT....the warning lights came back on and the ABS was firing intermittently as well. So whilst in for the MOT I had them check it as I know the ABS ring is an issue having done some reading. The fault codes were again for the rear offside (which was confusing because the ABS firing felt like it was coming from the offside front only). In the end, however, I got them to replace the rear offside ABS ring (which is an all in one part with the bearing included) and bingo, fixed the issue straight away.

As per the post above, maybe worth checking the cables to the sensor as it is easy to access with the wheel off, but my money is on the ABS ring, when they showed me mine you can see why they fail, when even a crack in them can cause problems I was amazed mine hadn't failed before as it was really badly corroded with several chunks missing.

Thanks for the reply rawcas...

Yesterday my ABS like yours fired up, go figure.. the warning lights are going off & on when they feel like it. I had the front near side front speed sensor replaced. Mybe I should take it back to the garage to check the ABS ring. Thanks mate. I'll see what happens.

No probs. That sounds like an identical symptom so I think that an ABS ring failure is the most likely issue. Definitely take it back to the garage.

It wasn't a costly job in the scheme of things, the bearing needs to come off so it's something I didn't do myself as I know they can be a pain to remove. The part was around £90.
