Where to get a timing chain/kit from...

Featured Replies

I (think) Mine could do with replacing, as the engine is a bit noisy. The car is due a service shortly, and hopefully should save a bit of cash getting the two done at the same time.

however I prefer to buy the parts myself, and get the garage to fit.

Where can i get one from? ECP don’t have them; I do have a local Skoda dealer as a last resort

I'd only buy genuine parts for such a critical application so the Skoda dealer would be my first choice.

Thanks, I’m presuming I need a whole kit, rather than just the belt part

There is no belt. The kit contains a new chain and the two timing cogs. That's all there is to a 1.4 mpi timing chain, they don't have a tensioner. Kit is part number 047 198 026

Only other things you'd need would be a timing cover gasket, and might as well bung a new crank oil seal into the cover as well. The sump has to come off but that is sealed with sealant not a gasket.

Timing cover gasket 047 103 161 C

Oil seal 047 103 085

Thanks for that. In regards to the oil seal... my car was leaking oil (for years) from the front drivers side. I did have an oil seal replaced earlier this year, which was something like a main oil seal ring? Is this the same part?

Yeah, if the oil leak was from the timing cover end it will have been that seal. It will be fine to reuse it then.

When it comes to the timing chain, a genuine one is the best bet.

Then again, you said you are selling the car in the near future so..........

Just spoken to the dealer, timing chain kit bargain price of £40, but none in stock and not likely to be at any time soon.
