rolling / wobbling when braking

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had a persistent problem pretty much since I got this car. It's very hard to notice, you can only really tell when braking on very smooth tarmac. I think, but am not sure, that it might be happening to a lesser degree all the time, but it seems very stable at 80mph so it obviously isn't a major issue.

The issue is that I can feel a sort of rolling / rocking sensation when braking (only very slight). It feels like one of the wheels is slightly oval, but only noticeably when braking.

I've had various work carried out on this car since I got it, including - three wheel bearings, new discs on the front about 4k miles ago, new pads in one rear brake (cos I couldn't be arsed to do both), O/S front lower arm changed, a month ago had two new rear tyres - the garage said the ones I'd had one since I got it were 'out of round', and needed changing anyway, wheel alignment and various other things that could conceivably have an effect on the ride. NONE of this has cured this issue. Both sets of tyres are at least relatively new and are good quality (michelin cross climates front and avons rear)

It's not the end of the world but it's pretty annoying, and I really don't know what it could be. It's really hard to know with these things but I feel like it might be coming from the rear, is it possible that the drum / s are causing this this issue? The handbrake does tend to stick on and release with a THUNK when I set off sometimes after the car has sat a few days.

Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated!

Well, that is definitely the pads/shoes corroding to the discs/drums. It would help to know the model here (an Ambiante is normally shoes and drums, Elegance and L&K are always pads and discs).

Good point, it's an ambiente, so discs and pads front and shoes and drums rear
