Driver's door leak

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm posting for a friend who has a MK3 Fabia. The driver's door seems to be taking in water when it rains. It all comes pouring out the bottom when she opens the door, she says.

Her mechanic can't find anything wrong and can't replicate the problem. I just wondered if anyone here might have come across this and know what might be causing it.

Thanks in advance.

Pete

Sounds "fairly normal" to me; the issue is if the water is getting into the car rather than "pouring out the bottom (of the door) when she opens the door".

If water is actually getting into the car, and her mechanic can't find where/how, help her find a better mechanic!

There are drainage holes at the bottom of the door. My previous car, a fiesta, had a curious problem about 3 months after I purchased it. When coming to a stop, there was a clear sloshing sound from the driver's door. When I got to work, I poked a key in the drainage hole and must of been a litre or two of water that came p*ssing out lol if it is just when she opens the door and no water is in the cabin, I'd look there first. Maybe they're partially blocked by some debris that got through the window seals

That's "rare" but not that rare, and is easy to check. See what I meant about a better mechanic?

I get a lot of water pour from my doors, I park facing up a slope (and sometimes facing down)

When I reach the level, water floods out of the drain slots, a good mug full per door.

Thanks chaps. Next time I'm down there I'll check the drainage holes.

All the best and have a very happy 2020.
