2018 VRS 4x4 remap?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with remaps on the 4x4 VRS 190 TDi? I had a quote for 350 for a Custom map, not sure if this includes a map to the DSG assuming that it needs it?

But really I am wondering if the drive train can handle the increase in torque and power, or can I expect things in the haldex system to start failing?

Thanks

Matt

First, the Haldex system is going to be fine, the stress is going to take its toll on the transmission so a custom tune for the DSG is always smart. (shift torque limit and so fourth).

It all comes down to how you use the car. If you let it get correct operating temperature before you drive it hard and so on. Also it depends on the tune you get, taking the cheap route and get a "backyard-tune" as we call it in Norway isn't very smart. Get a professional tune, it may cost most more but its better.

Dont focus on the hp/torque numbers, a linear curve is more important.

Thanks, completely agree I have remapped a few cars in the past and I would never touch a tuning box or removable map type systems as these more ‘fool’ your car and can be damaging. I am looking at a Custom remap by a VAG specialist I have used before on a Fabia VRS, I just don’t know much about the Haldex system and whether it could take the extra load, sounds like it can handle it no problem.

@MTwedVRS

What is the Remapper saying they can get as an improvement and who are they?

Do they have a Dyno for a before and after when doing a Custom Remap for £350?

If they are a VAG Specialist surely they are the ones that know all about the DSG and Haldex and best placed to give advice.

So you already positively know they have 4-wheel rollers or you'd not even think about using them?

Yeah but they will also want the business, so they are bound to say that it’ll all be fine! R-Tech in Hinckley, they reckon around 220 after map, they didn’t mention torque figure in the correspondence we had briefly

To be fair thats a good point, I am not sure if its a 4 wheel roller so I will need to check with them as I won’t get a map (and they won’t do one i dont believe) without the before and after.

You used them before.  Surely you would not trust someone that would just be interested in taking your money.

As it is you void the Manufacturers Warranty, it is your cash money risk, you go with the Reliable Tuner, especially with a Custom Map.

Do they not show in their Webpage or Advert what they have?

EDIT. They do.

220 output would be about right I think. The 184 puts out similar after a decent map. £350 is a good price provided it's a genuine custom map and I would doubt it includes dsg changes at that price. If they have the 4 wheel rollers and the ability to to tweak the dsg then ask what they would charge to do both. If you look around online the dsg maps are not cheap. Many are the same cost of ECU mapping so make sure you know what you are getting and that you need it first.
