I also get whitish smoke from exhaust for about 5 min driving and when idleling a horrible eye stinging smell from exhaust

You have not put any petrol in at any time, by mistake? Even just a little will mean you needed to drain the tank, re-fill with fresh diesel and change the fuel filter, to be sure!

No mate had the car 12 months I've never put petrol in and changed fuel filter 4 month ago it only has a problem for the first 10 mins until warm then everything normal I do get a slight hesitation in 4th or 5th when say I want to overtake and need to accelerate fast it lags then catches up cheers for your coment

I got exactly the same issue with my 2010 TDi 1.6. But I kinda figured out the reason for it, but can't find any solution to resolve it (well there is kinda). If the car is having a activate DPF regen and you interrupt it with switching the engine off, for some stupid reason the regen will continue after you start the engine again and it will be jumpy, smelly and white smoke will be coming out of the car until it reaches it's operating temperature again. The only solution to prevent this happening for me is just to complete the active DPF regen and it will be fine.

Than for the reply whenever it does a dpf regen and I stop it idles at 1000rpm so I leave it on until the idle returns to normal when it regens your right it does smoke and smell but this problem is only when I swith anything electrical on when the engine starts cold if I turn lights or fans on it happens but if I turn them off the returns to stable fans on idle rough off idle fine but when I've warmed the engine up I can turn everything on and the idle is consistent at about 800 rpm I'm thinking maybe a short in my electrical system or a weak fuel pump as I hear the pump changing noise as it idles rough cheers for your comment

Have you checked the battery is not getting weak, too? Or a bad earth? Might just be more noticeable in theses conditions. that said, ALWAYS finish a regen.

Hi mate battery is fine I've done a check last thing at night and first thing in the morning after it's been sitting for 10 hrs no change in volts I measured it with a multimeter and it consistent no drop in volts around 12.6 volts off then when I start it it's between 13.8 and 13.2 at idle but if I put the heaters or lights on it fluctuates up and down high 13. 8 low 12.6 but as it fluctuates that's when I get the rough idle if I turn lights and heaters off the volts return to stable 13.8 to 13.6 its as if the the lights and heaters are drawing power away from the fuel pump causing a weak flow of fuel hence the rough idle and may be if the engine is running lean may be chucking fuel out into the cat and when it's warm enough burns off and maybe that's why I get smoke for 5 mins of driving until its burned off that's why I think possibly an electrical fault or weak pump cheers for the input
