Fabia MK3 Android auto not working

Featured Replies

Using original USB-C cables and cables from Anker, Belkin and other manufactures Android auto doesn't work on the Skoda Fabia Combi 2020

It might work once every 20 attempts for a while but it doesn't last.

THe car detects the phones and shows android auto and mirrorlink capability on the phone but then it is unable to establish a further conection.

It seems the car wires are so bad it syncs using usb1 or usb2 at low speeds and can not transfer data using USB 2 high data transfer speeds.

This has happened with several phones being the Huawei P20 lite and Mate 20 lite the main phones I tested it with.

The Samsung Galaxy note 3 using microUSB wires works more often but it still has problems. It seems USB-C wires have more resistance.

Skoda Fabia is using a wire from the board of the infotainment system to the car pannel and this wire seems to be a very low quality wire not prepared for high data transfers.

I've had numerous issues with Android Auto in the past - I now use the following method in my 1.0 110 SE L which works pretty much every time (I have a Huawei P20, using the original cable):

1) Start the car.

2) On the Infotainment system, press "Menu" and then "SmartLink".

3) Wait for the "SmartLink is loading" message to disappear.

4) Unlock the phone, ensure the screen is on.

5) Plug in the USB cable.

6) Wait for the connection to be made, then press "Android Auto" on the Infotainment system. Note: sometimes it fails the first time, but pressing the button again always works.

7) Once the Infotainment screen goes black (and the Android buttons appear at the bottom of the screen), switch off the phone screen.

Everything then works perfectly, including voice commands (when holding down the voice button on the steering wheel), Spotify, Waze, etc. etc.

I suspect some of these steps are unnecessary and/or don't really do anything, but this method has solved nearly every issue I've had. Sometimes it just simply will not connect - in those situations, a phone restart (I very rarely, if ever, switch my phone off) tends to fix it.

It is still not working. Doing what you say works 1 out of 20 times.

The problem is the wire inside the car, not the wire I use. Most wires I tried were new from good brands and with lifetime warranty.

The USB estandard advises against using cable extenders and the problem seems to be the cable inside the car.

Been working fine here with my pixel 3 every time i've tried to use it. Not sure why you've jumped to blaming a wire you haven't seen inside the car 🤔 From what I've seen on forums, android auto is often a little hit and miss with certain phones 🤷‍♂️

Especially Huawei.

Have you tried another brand of phone?
