Turbo question

Featured Replies

Had a siren noise when accelerating in every gear .no noise at tickover.so decided it must be the turbo.on removal no play in shaft and no visible hitting any where.its a garrett gt1749va.could it still be somethinginside it thats about to go or have i wssted my time pulling it of .any help appreciated

If there's no end float then it's not likely to be the turbo, more likely to be a boost leak, however the siren sound is indicative of air cavitating around a worn impeller so if there is any end float then you may not be able to see any impeller wear concealed by the housing.

Shafts tight no up down or in and out movement spins freely .puzzled

Put it back together and check the intercooler pipe connections for leaks.

Or how much would it cost to have a specialist look at the turbo before refitting?id cry if had to take it off again

I don't know, you'd have to ask one but if there's no play in the turbo then it can't be damaged.
