Hi quite simply I have just been charged £160.00 including vat for replacing TWO wiper linkages costing £6.02 for both so that makes the labour content

£127.50 plus vat makes the bill total £160.22

If that is there hourly rate and they charge an hours min then the parts and VAT that is what it can cost.

What does it say on labour for time, is it 1 hour or i.3 ?

Well, if they replaced the wiper linkage (your words) there's an hour or two of work in that. If they just replaced the blades they saw you leave your house!

Surely you knew about the cost of the work before you agreed to it?

Hi didn’t say time however it says £50.00 for ”investigation and diagnosis “

 which we had already done as N/S wiper working perfectly and O/S wiper lying dormant but able to be moved by hand. So no brainer there.

Then £77.50 for replacing front wiper linkage then parts and vat on top.

we were told the cost would be £60.00 plus parts as we knew what the fault was.

Well, as I already said, replacing the linkage takes that sort of time to remove the old one and fit the replacement. The linkage is the bit between the wiper motor (one off) and the arms you can see.

From what you've said, charging the £50 for investigating and diagnosis after a price was agreed is indeed an attempt to rip you. Or a clerical error on the invoice.
