Can anyone suggest a simple way of testing the fuel pump . Fabia MK1 1.4 TDI . Thank you 

The one at the back or the one on the engine? You can normally hear the back one prime when you turn the key to glow. 

If this refers to the misfiring issue you list in a separate thread I doubt it's caused by the fuel pump, more likely the injector loom.

I'm sorry to say you're probably right but one thing came up with the fault codes . Was fuel tank pressure whatever that refers to  .

Where is the engine fuel pump located ?

If you follow the pipe from the fuel filter to the engine you'll be looking at the pump.
