Cheap and Easy upgrade - Adjustable Armrest

Featured Replies

I think some of the most satisfying mods are the smallest ones, and the little things can really change the feeling of your car. One of the things on higher spec cars was the armrest, and while I was considering retrofitting the factory one, I found lots of people on the forum saying that they were getting rid of theirs because of the inconvenience.

I found this one for £40 on amazon, and I have been very happy with it, despite the fact that the instructions weren’t great.

Its got a leatherette lid which is padded, and under the lid there is a large felt lined storage pocket. Behind the lid there is a ash tray thing, and the ash tray can be pulled out and extended to make a cup holder. Also, the lid can slide forwards for reach ability, and then rotated towards the driver. The whole unit has rails so it can be moved forwards, but then it can get in the way of the handbrake. It was pretty easy to fit, as essentially you slot the base into the plastic tray and cup holder, and screw it all together. One thing I didn’t like is that the bit that wedges into the cupholder was too small, so it would dislodge with acceleration, but I put a strip of really thick double sided gorilla tape around it which wedged it. Also, the seatbelt buckles would rattle against it, so I stuck double sided gorilla tape on those but didn’t take off the protective covering on the outwards facing side so that the seatbelts didn’t stick to it.Rotatable Armrest For Fabia 2... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GQZXGMR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Hi and welcome. I took ages to actually obtain my (Genuine) Armrest and the only debate I have is that I should have bit the bullet earlier and enjoyed it more! It only gets in the way if you are unused to it as most will to some degree. I usually only utilise it when on longer journeys such as duel carriageways etc and pop it up around town.

Best wishes.

Got one of those for the Yeti from Ali-Express, looks the same but has USB charging ports, as floppy as a piece of wet lettuce, looks good but I would not want to rest my arm on it.

I will try screwing it down into its plug in location which may stiffen it up a bit but it is never going to be a substitute for the jumbo box in the Octavia which I was missing.

There are other ones available with metal plates that straddle the transmission tunnel and are intended to be screwed to it, didn't fancy it and screwing through carpet and soundproofing would not give a secure fixing and it would probably be just as floppy although more able to resist the weight of an arm resting on it, with the one I have the force tries to tip the assembly out of its push fit engagement in the cup-holder.

No substitute for the original assuming that higher spec Yetis actually have a jumbo box, they dont get an ashtray with cover in front of the gearlever.
