Bonnet Struts

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitten the Bonnet Struts ? I've ordered mine from amazon and I'm trying to fit them, but I don't know where and how

Hi, just checking, you did order a kit and not just struts, I assume? You can buy just the rods but they will sell you anything if you are willing to part with the money. You will need the whole kit, including certain brackets, in order to fit any struts that are not usually supplied from the factory, rather then just fitting new/better ones to the vehicle in question.

I bought the entire kit :)

There’s some pictures in this post that might help.

Super! Thank you very much!

I'll work on it this weekend and afterwards, I'll put some photos.

i've fitted some to my sportline you may need to mod the brackets to get them to fit nicely

@Rsrob, have you drilled the wing or bonet?

No the hole are there or ready

Have just fitted some bonnet struts bought off Ali Express for £16.89 delivered in 10 days from China and no further taxes etc easy to fit but had to modify the brackets slightly as the drilled holes in the brackets needed to be elongated to fit correctly and the brackets need a small piece of packing underneath to sit neatly against the bonnet skin.

Be aware there two different kits one with a flat bracket that bolts to the bonnet and one with a stronger ribbed bracket which is what I used.

Makes the bonnet  virtually self opening with ease.

ok, thank you, guys! I'll check (unfortunately, this weekend was too busy for me :().

Have a look at page 11 on the "what have you done to your Octavia today" thread, where I posted a bit about my bonnet struts

I fitted some gas struts from Ali express 13 months ago. Just put a bit of rubber buffer under the front of the brackets to stop rubbing on bonnet skin.
The bonnet does not open quite as heigh as the manual strut but no problems at all.
It makes filling the screen wash etc very easy as the bonnet was quite heavy.
IMO easy mod well worth doing.

I managed to find a youtube video that shows the steps that need to be followed (in case someone as Rookie as I am wants to DIY):

Fliipin' Eck! I'd never fit them like that!

My fabia ones look like a similar set up and you need to CAREFULLY remove both bonnet bolts and fit the brakets to both holes. I really would not trust that way of doing it not to flex too much and damage anything. It does seem thats how they go though!!

That said, once fitted, they are a great assistance to opening the bonnet. On the Fabia, you also need to remove the old prop and its plastic clip, so they do not obstruct the new fixture in any way.
