Rattaling noise whilst in gears P and D

Featured Replies

Hi hope all is well and good with everyone on here :) so just a summary of what issues are at them moment. I have a 2008 skoda octavia diesel tdi 1.9 with dsg gearbox.

now I had the alternator refurbished yesterday by my local garage. However now there seems to be a rattling noise of some sort which was not there before going to the garage.

problem:

if in P / D can hear this rattling noise however when I change to N it stops... im 90% sure it is something to do with gearbox

i could really do with some suggestions please... I had the gearbox serviced about a year ago.

The garage which carried out the work should be your first port of call.

In neutral the gearboxes twin clutches are disengaged, in park or reverse they are under load and therefore vibrating, ever so slightly.

I am guessing that after the work on the alternator something isn't quite as tight as it was before.

Or one of the garage's spanners in now resting in a metallic recess somewhere under the bonnet 😂
