Mystery button on door pillar related to courtesy lights

Featured Replies

On the lower part of the pillar between my doors, on the inside of the car, there's a button with a picture of a car and what looks like its courtesy light highlighted and it's labelled Off. When the courtesy light is on, this light/button glows red and when the courtesy light goes off once I've closed the doors this light goes off too. If I press the illuminated button when it's red, it turns amber.

I can't work out what this light means and what this button does, it doesn't have any effect that I can see. Can anyone enlighten me please as the manual doesn't seem to mention it.

Thanks

From the owners manual...

Ah ha, right, thanks, so that symbol relates to the alarm not to the courtesy light. It begins to make some sense now. I'll probably find it in my manual if I look in the bit about the alarm!

Sadly, a useful feature removed from the latest f/l cars.

The feature is still there, just a more convoluted method of disabling it in the infotainment menu,  or apparently pressing the remote lock button twice in succession does the same thing.

Say if you're on a car ferry and all you can hear are bloody car alarms going off,it's because idiots have forgotten to turn off their interior alarms. This button is for that purpose.

Yeah, sorry, I meant the simplicity of the button.

Pressing the lock button on the remote does disable the interior alarm, but it also unlocks the deadlocks so reducing the security of your Pride and Joy.

Double click the lock button on the key fob does the same thing
