Alternator Fitting BMD

Featured Replies

Hi guys just a quick one,

reassembling the engine and I’ve got stuck with the alternator. It was difficult to get out because it was so tight but now I simply cannot get it back in at all. Is there a trick to getting it in or is it just perseverance?

thanks

mike

If it came out it'll go back in, patience and perseverance.

That's exactly what I tell my wife.

I seem to remember that the inner bushes on the alt can be moved a little (i.e. opening up the gap).

When you do up the bolts they pull back to a tight fit on the block bracket.

Will give that a try tomorrow morning then that would certainly make getting it back on easier. It was driving me crackers it came off so it must go back on! Lol

Yep, should make things much easier. Pop the bolts back in, give the heads a tap with a hammer until you see the bushes move a touch, should then be easy to get on.

Cool it’s too tight to see what I’m doing as I have hands lol. It’s the only bit holding me up now almost everything is back together bar the belt tensioner and inlet manifold which shouldn’t  take very long

It’s back on and the engine is all back together. Just needed a lot of wiggling and jiggling to get it back on!

Sorry guys would like to pick your brains. Cars all back together now the burnt valves have been replaced. Charged the battery and the engine turns over fine but will not start it’s not even trying. So if I have fuel and spark could it be the timing that’s out a tooth? I’m pretty sure it should be timed up as I used the timing tools and didn’t take them out until the very last thing so looking for ideas. The car has been stood about a month
