Rust Advice VRS

Featured Replies

Hey,

noticed today I have some rust it seems between the back wheel arch and the rear bumper.

it looks like water has got between the bumper and rear arch which has caused this over time.

what would your advice be? Contact Skoda and see if they will cover it or go independent? Or try and do a self fix?

I have attached some pictures.

cheers.

Forgot to say it’s a 63 plate VRS.

Are you the first owner? Can you guarantee it's never had a repair there? Looking @ the panel gap I'd say that's probably been repaired at some point, so Skoda wouldn't be any help I'm afraid.

Best bet to go privately to a local trusted body repairer and get a quote.

I’m the second owner. Don’t think it’s been in an accident but can’t confirm 100% I’ve owned it for nearly 4 years so I’m sure it would have shown by now.

I already had the common rust on the boot fixed by the spoiler under the corrosion warranty.

I assume the longer I leave it the worse it will get. I plan on keeping this car for longer so I may as well get it sorted.

Take it to a Paint shop and ask them to put a paint gauge on it ,that will tell you if its been painted before

Have to agree, it does look suspect. A local bodyshop should be able to rectify that at little cost.

What's the wheel arch like underneath the panel - is there any sign of damage / ill fitment to the liner?

Yeah no signs that the wheel arch is damaged. I’ll get it checked by a paint shop as advised. It’s possible it’s been sorted before and I’ve never noticed until now - no reason to.

Hi, got my non VRS Octavia 2014 repainted both sides this part under warranty for free some years ago. So Skoda agreed that its bumper skratching this metallic part, I guess they repainted and put some spacers.

Good you got it sorted. Ultimately Skoda knocked back my warranty claim as I got a independent to do a major service but they didn’t log that they done a body work inspection so they didn’t honour it. Pathetic really. It’s ultimately got slightly worse but it is what it is. I won’t have the car this time next year so I’ve learned to live with it.

Yes. Skoda have a 10 year bodywork guarantee. Take it to your nearest (trusted) Skoda dealer who will book it in and get their local workshop to do the job.
