Lock broken battery flat

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 1.2 with central locking. Unfortunately the battery is flat and the key won’t work in the manual lock. I.m wondering what the best way is to get into the car to get the bonnet open to access the battery. The best I’ve come up with is to break a window! Even, then, which one? Is there a better way which would cause less damage?

Does the passenger side lock work?

There isn't a 'key' lock on the passenger side - only driver's side.

There often is for emergency purposes. Pop off the cover and check.

You might be able to find a way to pull the bonnet release catch from underneath the car but it is, by design, not easy to reach.

By opening the bonnet though, you could hook up a jump start battery or charger, depending on your location and then use the remote fob once more!

Do you know WHY the key won't work? Has the car had different locks/ignition fitted at some point?

I have had another thought but don't want to put it up here, purely for security purposes so PM me.

Somebody stuck a screwdriver in it to force entry (!) - now the barrel just turns.

You can get replacement internals for the lock but they are a little fiddly to fit. You will need the door open first though, to do that anyway.

Will the barrel slept of the lock now? If so, you might be able to use a tool to then do what the turning barrel did!

Do you have breakdown cover?  I locked my keys in the boot last year and the breakdown cover I had ensured that someone attended and 'gained' entry to the car in 30 minutes without damaging it. It would depend on your cover as you would need Homestart.

Yes, but no homestart unfortunately.

Never break a window to get in without checking which is the cheapest to replace.

Best just pay the Local Locksmith or recovery firm to open it, or a local car thief.
