Columbus 9.2 and text messages

Featured Replies

Just picked up my (new to me) 2018 Superb Sportline Estate at the weekend. Loving the new car, which is an upgrade from my 2012 Superb SE Plus estate. However, I was looking forward to all the connectivity the Columbus 9.2 will give me, but am struggling to work it all out! When I first paired my phone on the dealers forecourt, I saw a text message option on the screen, but for some reason it failed to import my contacts. Then having spent a bit more time on it at home, I reset the user and started from scratch and the phone all paired and contacts imported, great! However, I now have no option of text messages on the screen, where did it go and how do I get it back? A friend has suggested it is better not to have this option as on his 2012 Superb the messages are all stored on the car and not on the phone using this option, but not sure if this would be the case or not on my newer Columbus. Also, I can’t seem to see if Whatsapp works with this unit either? I can’t see an option via Android Auto either to do messages or Whatsapp. Phone is Samsung Galaxy S10.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I have the same setup and mine is OK however there are two ways of connecting one is business and this give you more functionality. it will read the txt out to you and even passes your ring tone across to the car.

Hi John

Thanks for your reply.

It says business phone interface when I look at it in one of the menus and if I go to untick that option, it asks if I really want to do that. Thing is it doesn't tell me what the options are and what will change if I proceed?

From what you are saying I do want business and that seems to be what I have, but it doesnt offer me text messages. Any other clues?

I seem to have solved it! In bluetooth when I went to paired devices and clicked my phone it was connected as handsfree, I changed this to rsap mode instead and it asked a few permissions on my phone then messages was back!

Does it keep messages on phone or only in car in this mode?

Hi,

messages are only stored on the phone I think. if you get a new one the system will "read" it out to you if you tap it on the screen, emoticons are a laugh when read out 🙂

Hi John

Thanks for your help with this and I look forward to receiving my first message, hopefully sent with emoticons!

Already got the car going back to the dealers for creaking and knocking suspension! Had it for four years on the old one and they just said it was normal and I hoped the new one wouldn't suffer, but appears it's the same! Interestingly they tell me there is a technical bulletin on this and I've read a lot on here about the problem as well. Fingers crossed this gets solved.

Regards

Mark
