Canton sub pass out

Featured Replies

Dear all Canton listeners - recently the sound in my subwoofer just disappeared. All bass is missing which makes it awfull to listen to any kind of music in my beloved car. Tuning up and down on the Subwoofer doesn't help. As well up and down on the bass equalizer doesn't help much either on the main speakers. Like most low hertz frequencies are gone.

The day after the sub dissapeared the bass came back like for half a second. Later at my Skoda retailer they used 4,5 hours trying out different solutions without luck. They as well heard the sub working for a couple of seconds and then dead again. Now it has been dead for 2 weeks. Skoda tried to exchange the amplifier with a brand new one. My amplifier worked on the brand new Superb and opposite still no reaction.

Do any of you have a clue where in the system the fault could be found? How and where to measure voltage or ampere to spot the fault?

Well if it isn’t the amp it’s either the wire from the amp to the sub or the sub itself.

they need to swap the sub from your car to the new car to see if it’s the sub.

failing that it must be the amp to sub wiring. Replace whatever’s faulty then.

surprised the dealer hasn’t tried this!

maybe after 4.5 hrs swapping amps they thought you would want your car back so gave up.

another long diagnostic session they will probably have to get skoda UK to authorise.

had a longwinded job like this on a 5 series BMW a few years back that ended with the car going back to the master techs at BMW UK for a week for failing intermittent setting of wipers.

dealer had swapped all sorts and tested wiper motor home position switch etc turned out there are two home position switch contacts and both have to work.

it can all get very complex these days so you have to eliminate each component in the chain in turn.

Hi MiniEggs.

had two different 5 series one the current style known internally as the F10 and the previous Chris Bangle Design E60 both 2.0l turbo diesel SE spec.

both nice cars to drive and well thought out and put together.

it was the E60 that had the difficult windscreen wiper fault.

i would rate both my CR170 diesel superb MK2 Elegance and current Superb Mk3 SEL Exec above the BMW overall.

more space

more reliable (did over 100,000 miles in the MK2 Superb taking it to 182,000)

much much cheaper to run for servicing repairs etc.

BMW’s were nice places to be but sparse on kit, overpriced and excruciatingly expensive for things like brake pads and disks from dealers as well as being made of cheese, they work fine but wear out in the blink of an eye. Front pads every mid 20,000 miles or so and new disks for every other set of pads. Backs last slightly longer pads and disks together around £450 and that’s a few years back.

overall Skoda Superb is better in most areas the big ones being kit and value for money.

I will contact Skoda and ask them specifically about these options have been tested. You know the mechanics tell an desk officer of his findings and this officer tells me - loss in communication...

Thanks for the feedback

I like the idea of a premium car and you can get quite close price wise mid to low spec premium vs top spec mainstream. but if i'm going to be buying parts for say 7 of 10 years I don't want to be paying base 35k car prices when I could be paying 25k car prices

Do any know mechanics in Denmark that have experience with Canton systems and error finding?
I am not sure I am qualified
