high beam fault

Featured Replies

hi, ive searched through the topics, and cant find anything to help me.

my father in laws fabia monte carlo as an issue with high beam.

pull the stalk towards you, and the high beam will come on along with the blue tell tale light, but push away for high beam to stay on, and high beam is not coming on, nor is the blue tell tale light on the dash.

run diagnostics, with mac diagnostics tool with latest upgrade, and its not showing any faults.

i personally think the stalk is faulty, but wondering if anyone as had this same issue and can pinpoint the fault

thanks

You are trying this with the key in and ignition turned on, I assume?  There was also an issue in lights where the actual switches on the dash failed but I am unsure as to if this could cause this fault. (You have not mentioned if the dipped beam is working ok so we can only assume).

Something I've noticed on our one is that full beams only operate when the engine is running, regardless of switch position.

Engine running while getting these issues.

Dipped beam works fine. Side lights and front fog / drl work fine.

It's the high beam that's the issue. Now i know high beam is achieved by the movement of a reflector in the headlight housing, and we get high beam when pulling the stalk back to flash, but when we push the stalk forwards to put high beam on permanent, for example driving down an unlit country road at night, it doesn't work.

The stalk stays in place, but no high beam.

Some models have a separate high-beam bulb rather than the shutter on the dip-beam bulb. Either way, you've been able to activate the high-beam using the flash function, which suggests everything at the headlamp end is fine, and that it's probably a problem with the switch. Ours has the opposite problem: high-beam activation works, but the flash doesn't.

The only way to see if it's the switch is to get at the contacts and check with a continuity tester. I think this is possible without removing the steering wheel. If you do have a bad/dirty contact you're going to need to remove the steering wheel to remove the switch module.
