Cheap full size spare wheel to pair with 20 inch vRS wheels

Featured Replies

Going to be towing my caterham on a trailer a long way later this year - I'm worried about the hassle if I get a puncture that the goop can't repair.

As I have a trailer, I have space for a full size spare (not a space saver) and I was thinking if I get one that matches the 20 inch rims that the vRS comes with, if I get a puncture I can just swap it and continue towing happily as before.

I could buy the same wheel from skoda, but they are expensive - are there other options that will be cheaper?  It must be able to go on the car and drive as before, no speed restrictions etc.  I don't care that it will look odd having one wheel a different design.

As I mentioned above, storing it isn't an issue, it'll go on the tyre rack on the trailer with my caterham spare wheels.

Thoughts?

Ebay. 20" VW Group rim.

Any alloy wheel supplier??

Has something changed since the similar thread back in January?

The main difference is the distance - I've booked a day at Anglesea and given its 300 miles away I  don't want the speed restriction of a space saver, or a different size wheel

Just buy a fifth alloy wheel and tyre.

It's not for me to pry, but running a vRS Kodiaq, pulling a trailer with it, putting a Caterham car on it and driving the length of the county, then spending £400 on a spare alloy hopefully won't break the bank.

If / when you come to sell the Kodiaq you should be able to get most of your money back by selling it to someone who's clonked a kerb / hit a pothole etc.

I'd be tempted to ring your local Skoda dealer parts department with this part number, 565071490C HA7, they might be cheaper than you think.

As it's a spare you won't need a premium tyre either.

If it is a spare and an identical wheel i would get an identical tyre to the 4 on the car now.

Get the new one on the car and take the scrubbed in one & put it on the trailers carrier ready for use.

Then no need to slow down if it gets fitted, you can carry on at trailer towing speed. Unlike when you fit an odd one out tyre or a brand new green tyre.

I am in a similar position mileage wise so I trawled eBay and got this matching wheel and tyre £70.

A few bits of metal swarf in the (decent depth) tread and the wheel has a few scrapes but as a spare it's a result for me.

Photos after a good scrub !

Have you leant it against the wall face down!? 😮

Yes.

The tyre, not the wheel is resting on the wall - made sure of that before hand.

Phew, you gave my OCD a worry then :D
