Help! Bootlid Trim Re-fit MKII Superb Estate.

Featured Replies

So I removed the trim of the boot lid today to fit a reversing camera. Absolute nightmare to remove, I followed a video on youtube to do it. But now I can not get it to clip and stay back in place! Any advice or help much appreciated.

Refitting is the reverse of removing.

What exactly is the issue?

Did some of the clips break when you removed them?

Some of the plastic clips seem to have broken, but all the metal clips are still in place. It sounds like they clip back in, then it just falls off. Wondering if it's worth getting new metal clips?

Do the metal clips look like this?

Yes, they do.

Those clips are usually a real pain to release, it sounds as though they're not being pushed far enough in. They need to compress as they push through the hole in the metal part of the boot lid, and then they spring back out on the other side of the hole, but only once pushed far enough.

I’m not sure how to apply more force to be honest! I’ll give it another go though, thanks.

you need two people, one holds the boot down while you push the trim back on. it really needs pushing very hard where the clips are.

Make sure all the clips are straight. If not slid them out of the plastic housing and bend them using pliers. Put the trim carefully onto the opposing holes and then wack the trim on tapping over each clip and you should hear the clips connect / snap in. When there is a spring like resistance a clip has not found its way home and you have to adjust that particular one better.

I straightened a couple out yesterday but one broke and some of the others need straightening but wont get it now, another part to keep a stock of spares of.
