Remap help

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a 2016 vRS tdi with dsg box

I have recently had the engine and box remapped by a highly recommended installer. The problem I’m having is my fuel economy has dropped on my daily commute by around 7 mpg. When I had the map done the request was for a mix of performance and economy. Car used to average 43 mpg over quite hilly terrain to be fair. Since mapping it hasn’t got above 37mpg. My previous mk2 fl estate was remapped and although manual used to do 53 on same journey. Has anyone else found this following remap?

My 27 mile commute also takes me 37 minutes at an average 40mph and I average 38.9mpg in a 360bhp petrol DSG Superb so it's probably down to your hilly commute and constant gearchanges. Which engine mode have you selected under Individual because Sport will keep the revs higher than Eco and consequently use more fuel as well. My DSG isusually in Eco which maximises the coasting function putting the gearbox in neutral dropping revs to 800rpm even at 70mph.:o

@Glass Back

What did the highly recommended installer do in the way of a remap, something they buy or is it a custom map?

They are the person to talk to as they surely take pride in what they sell customers.

If you are driving as you were before the remap there should be no reason for your car to use more fuel even with more available power.

If you are trying out to see if the car was remapped for more power then it night well use more fuel.

A small point, someone with a TSI telling you what they achieve has little to do with what you get with your TDI.

PS

An average MPH like you are showing means lots of slow driving, or is it lots of sitting stationary, or stopped and restarting.

88 miles in 3 hours 34 minutes.

Thanks for the replies. I drive it in individual mode with everything in sport set up but gearbox in drive as opposed to sport. I did this prior to the map. The map itself was custom on a rolling road with synonyms printout. I haven’t spoken to the company yet as I wanted to make sure it was something people suffered generally. The terrain. Time of commute. Driving set up is all exactly the same as it was prior the remap just the economy is poor.

I would imagine the dsg remap will change gears that bit higher in the rev range so might affect mpgs. I would also try the throttle in normal mode. Sport mode in the remap might be very aggressive and ask for alot of boost and fuel low down which again can reduce mpgs.

I find normal on everything drives better and i only put the dsg in sports mode if I need to make progress

We've had a lot of bad weather recently, it's amazing how much strong winds and rain can wreak havoc with your MPG. I too have just had a custom remap with a highly recommended installer and I'd say my MPG has suffered too. Since refuelling this week the weather has been fine and my MPG's are now on par if not better than before.

I could do with going back to said highly recommended installer as I'm less than impressed with how smooth the gear changes are at low speed.

I noticed my mpg drop loads over the last couple of weeks.  I put it down to the conditions so have enjoyed the extra go of the map rather than struggling to keep good mileage.  Give yourself a chance to get used to it and also let the weather die down a bit.  I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
