Retrofit of Driving Mode option?

Featured Replies

Hi, I ran a Fabia 2 Greenline Estate for nearly 10 years but just replaced it with a petrol 2016 Fabia Mk III Estate with DSG.

Overall I quite like the DSG but one thing I have noticed is that it seems to hang on to gears longer than I'd like when pottering around, e.g. D5 at approaching 2k revs when I'd prefer D6 at just over 1k etc. Obviously I'm not expecting the economy of the diesel greenline but was hoping for a bit more than I seem to be getting (~45MPG if I'm careful). I'm assuming the shift decision can be influenced by the Driving Mode button, and ideally I'd be in ECO mode much of the time.

Unfortunately my car doesn't have that option fitted - is there any way to retrofit it (dealer or DIY)?

(I had a search - someone has done something similar for off-road mode:

...though it does look more complex than I'd be able to tackle)

Any thoughts or links?

TIA!

Errm, just looking in the online manual... maybe there isn't actually a Drive Mode option on the Fabia III anyway! I must have been getting confused with another model...🤦‍♂️

I had a Fabia MK3 Monte Carlo with DSG as a courtesey car for a day, it had Drive and Sport modes. Sport mode hung onto gears a little longer when pootling around, and while pushing it harder on back roads, it hung onto gears even more.

You could probably have a look at having the DSG mapped alongside the engine, you'll get more performance and they can look into why it's hanging onto gears and maybe rectify that for you.
