VRS Tyre choice (again) F1 Asy 5

Featured Replies

Hi All

Yesterday thought I'd succeeded in scoring a pair of Good Year F1 Asy 2 225/40 18s for my 12 plate Octavia VRS Estate. However turns out Kwik fit sold me a pair of these in run-flat variant not standard so not suitable. This is for mobile fitting so they've phoned me up keen to switch to the most up to date version - we're up to 5 now apparently. Before giving the go-ahead on that I wanted to sense check this on Noise and Kerb protection - 2 of the reasons I was hoping to get a pair of the old fashioned 2s.

What are users real world experiences?

Do the 5s give similar kerb protection to 2s?

And how are they for noise - seem to see mixed reviews on this and it's a bug bear - one of the reasons for moving away from the OE Contis.

Any other / better branded tyres to put into the mix that tick the all round performance, grip, noise and kerb boxes?

Thanks

The Eagle F1 assymetric 2 in 225/40 R18 size are only in runflat

The do make the assy 3 and assy 5 without run flat (doesn't seem to be a number 4, possibly to avoid confusion with 4-season when shorthand used)

All have rim protection, but new ones are noiser

2 are 67db, 3 are 70db, 5 are 71db

If noise is your key parameter then maybe not assy5

Thanks John, yes it seems the only 2s left are Run flats (although not clearly labelled as such). And 3s are also on their way out...

Noise and kerb protection as well as all round performance are important. The standard noise figures I think are for external noise so keen to understand real world experience of using them on an Octavia.
