2021?! They had a well reviewed 500e for last few years in California, why is it not available out to rest of the world until 2021? 

 

Oh, it's because Fiat only produces small number of these cars to meet regulation. 

Things / plans might change now that PSA own FIAT.

So, late to the table and STILL only a range of under 200 miles? This will be well under with real driving conditions such as full speed, load, weather/night driving etc.

@mrgf  Some people have that much money they do not care,

they can buy or lease and might not really need a car but if they are going to have one looks matter.

Sweet young things or pink / purple / blue rinse OAP's might well just get one.

The kind that might have bought the most expensive VW Up! they could get rather than a Citigo / Mii.

 

The Fiat 500 electric has been on the go for a while in the USA. (2013 in California)

 

The batteries really have not moved on that much yet for getting more carried on small cars, no matter how much anyone spins that they have.

But they are doubling the range in under a decade.

Batteries have moved on in one respect, cost per KWh. In 2013 is was close $800/Kwh and is currently around $156/Kwh. GM in partnership with LG Chem expects to get this down to $100/Kwh - the point at which price parity is achieved with ICE cars.

Based on the current cost per KWh, this car and the e-UP! (and clones) are looking expensive. The current supply issues at Audi, Jaguar and Hyundai / Kia are artificially contrived by LG Chem to preserve profit margins at fat levels. TESLA does not appear to have any such problem in partnership with Panasonic.
