Replacing front indicator bulbs 2018 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been tasked by an uncle with replacing the indicator bulb on his 2018 Octavia (facelift) - they're the regular incandescent bulbs.

The bulb itself had fallen out of its socket inside the lamp cluster (apparently not the first time).

Anyway I got the bulb out but I cannot work out how to get the bulb into the socket there seems no slack on the wiring loom to get the bulb back on.

The socket has a long plastic paddle on it I guess to re-fit it into the headlamp cluster but the wiring is very snug.

Anyone what I should do here? I guess i could remove the bumper and take the headlamp out but that seems waaaay over-the-top to replace an indicator bulb.

Thanks in advance

Presumably it was still under the Irish warranty when the bulb first fell out?

If after the Skoda dealer refit the bulb it has since fallen out again, even if the car is now no longer under warranty I'd be insisting either the mechanics efforts fell short of the required standard, or the headlight is defective.

I wouldn't be wanting to do it myself.

Skoda Ireland boast that they offer a 3 year warranty, the same as the UK...

Access to the indicator in the lower inner cluster doesn't look too bad...

To confirm (again) the car is not covered by a warranty (and I am beginning to lose patience repeating this no matter how much anyone is struggling to accept this fact about someone else's car)

This might sound redundant but ask yourself "why would anyone ask how to do a job if it were covered by warranty?" It isn't covered by warranty as the car is not under warranty.

The bulb fell out at some stage not during service.

I am not really looking for ways to provoke worthless conflict with the skoda dealer over this just a way to replace the bulb.

I am just looking to find out how to replace the indicator. So really it is a question applicable only to people who have themselves in the real world done this job.

This is a good example of how the youtube guide for replacing the dipped beam bulbs is not useful for replacing the indicator.

The access is extremely limited as opposed to the dipped beam which isnt covered by the video you posted (which I viewed prior to attempting the job in the real world, before I fruitlessly came here looking for help).

If this isn't  a job you would do yourself fine, go in peace and good luck, but that being the case why on earth to you think it falls within your sphere to chip in on the matter?

*** This car is not covered by any warranty (startling as some might find this but true) THE CAR IS NOT COVERED BY A WARRANTY***

I've been tasked by an uncle with replacing the indicator bulb on his 2018 Octavia (facelift) - they're the regular incandescent bulbs.

The bulb itself had popped/fallen out of its socket inside the lamp cluster (apparently not the first time) NOT DURING ANY ŠKODA SERVICE.

I got the bulb out using a telescopic magnetic wand but I cannot work out how to get the bulb into the socket there seems no slack on the wiring loom to get the bulb back on.

Access is really really poor, to the extent the socket itself is mounted on a long plastic wand because human hands would usually not be able to reach (outside of a talon-fingered multi-jointed contortionist).

The wiring is very snug -there is no spare play on the loom to fit the bulb as far as I can tell

Anyone out there who has personally done the job?

I don't  really want to remove the bumper and take the headlamp out as that seems waaaay over-the-top to replace an indicator bulb.

The youtube videos currently available do not cover this issue.

If you are still reading please understand that not knowing the answer is fine, after all that us why I am asking for help here. But pretty please, with sugar on top, no more god-damned spam about how hard you find it to believe that the not covered by warranty or advice on blagging a busy main dealer to do work for free on a car out of/not covered by warranty because it is utterly useless

Thanks in advance for not telling me that "it should be covered by the warranty as it isn't  because THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THIS CAR.

Man struggles to replace indicator bulb.

Man comes onto public online forum asking for help.

Man struggles to post, writing duplicate threads, not realising the lack of warranty information was in the other thread.

Man gets a response to keep his thread close to the top of the page with an attempt at useful advice in the hope others might know more and contribute.

Man throws advice back, rebuffs any response that doesn't fit with his exact requirements, uses bold and underline to shout and finishes off with a complete absence of online 'friendly forum' etiquette.

Good luck with the bulb. If you do work it out be sure to come back and share the procedure with others, remember this is what Briskoda is all about.

As @silver1011 has mentioned, Briskoda is more than 'just a forum' for member interaction and it normally goes about it's business in a very relaxed way.

One way this works is to keep each specific topic within that area and not to start new threads which creates confusion.

All the answers previously within this thread (including ones which you have asked to be removed as 'distracting', have been from long standing members who hold a great deal of information.

People inherently want to help other's out but maybe it's time to relax a little and see if anyone is able, or even now willing to assist?
